Introducing The Push Up Board and Indian Club

Indian clubs are a fantastic training tool to help you reach many goals.

Lighter Indian clubs that are often made from wood or poly are excellent for rehab, prehab, and building mobility through the shoulder girdle.

Heavier clubs like those made of steel are a fantastic training tool to build real-world functional strength in the shoulders, grip, and upper body.

Combining heavy club training with Shena boards is ideal because you get the rotational elements of both the Shena board and Indian clubs complementing each other perfectly.

I began training with Indian clubs 15 years ago when I tore my rotator cuff. I began working with lighter Indian clubs to begin with. Then once my shoulder healed, I progressed on to heavier clubs.

I still train with clubs at least two times per week, both light and heavy, using the lighter Indian clubs as part of my warm-up and heavier clubs as the main workout.

Steel maces are also excellent for complementing Indian clubs and the Shena board. I like to work in the steel mace for two-handed work while using the steel clubs for single-armed work.

Shena boards are an important aspect of the training programme. Being able to control, move, and stabilise your own body weight is important, as well as incorporating other body weight exercises like chin-ups, squats, and lunges.
